    American New Year’s Eve revellers warned they could get FROSTBITE as forecasters predict record -12C mega-freeze

    AMERICAN partygoers have been told they risk frostbite if -12C temperatures predicted for New Year’s Eve strike the country.
    Forecasters in the US say sub-zero arctic blasts and dangerously cold winds are expected to bring up to five feet of snow as plunging temperatures threaten New Year’s Eve celebrations.
    Weather experts have warned those daring to head outside that plunging temperatures could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes of exposure to the icy atmosphere.
    Wind chill advisories have been issued for North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, Indiana, New Hampshire and New York.
    Bone-chilling temperatures have already seen five feet of snow over the Christmas weekend in Erie, Pennsylvania, with heavy snowfall also hitting Lake Ontario in New York.
    The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that International Falls, Minnesota plunged to -37C last night, smashing the old record of -35C set in 1924.
    Hibbing, Minnesota, saw another record low of -28C, breaking the old record of -27C set in 1964.
    At least one million people are expected to gather in New York’s Times Square to welcome in the New Year.
    The Big Apple last saw its coldest New Year’s Eve in 1962, when temperatures plummeted to -16C.
