Gunmen assassinated Sheikh Mohammad Kharsand, the representative of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, and the imam of Juma, the city of Kazrun in the southern province of Fars.
The ISNA news agency said that “preliminary information indicates that the attackers stabbed Mohammed Kharsand knife in front of his house, to die immediately due to the severity of injuries.”
Kharsand died hours after being taken to hospital due to the depth of the wounds in his abdomen, sources told Iran International.
The site quoted eyewitnesses that the killer approached Khursand under the pretext of taking a photo with him, but soon attacked him with blows with a knife in his stomach.
For his part, deputy police chief of the province of Fares, Kaoos Mohammadi, killed Khursand, said that the killer was identified, and that police are pursuing him.
