Police are asking the public for tips about a fire that was intentionally set Wednesday night.
Officers were called at about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday to the 36500 block of St. Clair Drive to a report of an arson, according to authorities. The street is located near County Line and 25 Mile roads.
The 911 caller showed the officers a large, partially burned nylon flag, police said.
He told the officers the flag had been mounted to the front of the home and a neighbor saw it engulfed in flames when he was driving past, authorities said. The neighbor stopped his vehicle, exited, pulled the burning flag off its mount and managed to extinguish the flames.
Officers used a canine unit to track a suspect, but the dog lost the scent. Investigators believe the person may have gotten into a waiting vehicle.
Anyone with information about the incident should call New Baltimore Police at (586) 725-2181.
