A lockbox containing $5,000 in cash, passports and other valuable documents was reported stolen during a breaking and entering Nov.14 at a house in the 8400 block of Riverdale Street, Dearborn Heights.
The victims, a 36-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife, said they left the house at about 9:30 a.m., and are unsure whether both the front and side door were locked. They said when they returned home at 8 p.m., the padlock on their bedroom door had been ripped off, and the hinges damaged, indicating that the door was likely kicked in. She said no one else knew about the lockbox in the room.
A man who rented a room from them until two months ago, and who still has furniture in the house, had a television stolen from the basement. They were unaware as to whether he still had a key to the house.
None of the exterior doors to the house showed signs of forced entry. An evidence technician investigated the crime scene, but found nothing of evidentiary value. There were no surveillance cameras in the area, and no suspects.
