Man arrested for open intoxicants and disorderly conduct in church parking lot

A Dearborn man was arrested for drinking inside his vehicle, while blasting the stereo, at 3:40 a.m. Jan. 31 in the parking lot of Sacred Heart Church, 22430 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn.

The responding police officers discovered the man in a tan 2003 Buick Rendezvous, parked across two spaces in the northwest corner of the lot, playing loud music and yelling along. His breath and the vehicle smelled strongly of intoxicants. There were three empty 12- ounce Budweiser bottles in the vehicle, and a half-empty 24-ounce can of Budweiser in the cupholder.

Despite several requests from police officers, the man failed to turn off the engine and exit the vehicle, and instead started to yell belligerently and swear at the police officers.

An officer then reached inside the vehicle, unlocked it, and ordered the man to exit the car. When he failed to comply, the officers removed him from the vehicle, handcuffed and searched him, and secured him in the back of a police vehicle. His vehicle was searched for contraband, with negative results, then was impounded and towed.

The man was taken to the police station, where he was searched again with a metal detector, booked and housed. He was cited for having open intoxicants in a vehicle and for disorderly conduct.
