Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says he will establish a COVID-19 drive-thru testing site in the city.
The drive thru testing will begin Friday at the Joe Dumars Field House at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. Appointments are being taken starting today. A doctor’s prescription is required to be tested.
Once the prescription is obtained, either the doctor or patient can call 313-230-0505 to schedule an appointment. Calls can be made from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week.
The site will have the capacity to conduct 400 tests per day, for a total of 14,400 over a six-week period. Fifty cars an hour will be scheduled so there will be no back up or long lines.
It is being made possible by the 8 member Coronavirus Community Care Network, which is made up of the the following:
- Detroit Medical Center
- Henry Ford Health System
- Trinity Health Systems
- City of Detroit
- Macomb County
- Oakland County
- Wayne County
Testing will be done Monday-Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They will be conducted by staff of the three participating health care systems.
