Shattered car window may have been an act of retribution

A shattered rear car window reported Aug. 29 by a man in the 5100 block of Harding Street in Dearborn Heights may have been an act of retribution, the victim said.

The victim said he heard a cracking sound at 2 a.m., but thought it was thunder. However, when he was outside that afternoon doing lawn work, he discovered that the back windshield of his tan 2015 Chevy Malibu had been shattered. He discovered a depression in the ground nearby where a decorative rock was missing.

The man said he recently had his minor daughter hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation, and he suspects she may have convinced her boyfriend to damage his car in retaliation for her unwanted admission.

However, the man did not know the boyfriend’s name, phone number or address, and did not have an adequate photo of him.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera did not record the area where his car was parked, so the case was closed for lack of evidence.
