Wayne County voters showed up to protect democracy

I can’t remember the last time in my life I was ever so angry and proud at the same time.

I was angered when the two Republican members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers initially voted on Tuesday to certify all votes in Wayne County except for those cast by Detroiters in the 2020 Election. This decision — later reversed within a matter of hours — was based on a perverted partisan mathematical calculation that exposed a very simple and racist conclusion: Detroit is mostly Black, which means it does not count, cannot be trusted and doesn’t deserve respect from white people in charge. Anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with Detroit’s history should recognize this as an unwelcome repeat of past sins.

What is even more infuriating is how many others allow this unpardonable ignorance to inform their decision-making. This irresponsible recklessness includes our own President who tweeted his enthusiastic support of this attempted vote theft before massive pushback from angry Detroiters and other Wayne County residents changed the outcome.
