Detroit police to intensify efforts to combat illegal races this weekend

DETROIT – Police are preparing to ramp up their presence and efforts in Detroit this summer in response to an upsurge in unruly behavior and illegal drag racing.

On Thursday, Detroit Interim Police Chief James White announced a summer crowd control plan that he said would help maintain order, especially on weekends, during a time when many people are emerging from the pandemic and moving into town. The multi-faceted plan was designed to tame the “festive atmosphere” that currently exists across the city, while also tackling illegal drag racing and drifting.
