Michigan State Police and other states are on the lookout for speeding drivers

LANSING, MI – Law enforcement from more than 30 municipalities, counties and states are on the lookout for speeding drivers as part of the Great Lakes, High Risk campaign.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s District 5 office are partnering with five other states in a traffic safety effort that runs through June 27.

State police data shows that last year 1,083 people died in accidents on Michigan roads compared to 985 in 2019. The increase came as the number of traffic accidents in the state decreased from 314,377 in 2019 to 245,432 last year.
