Biden’s order will make the US government carbon neutral by 2050

President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order to make the federal government carbon neutral by 2050, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030 and create a fleet of all-electric cars and trucks after five years.

The White House said the order showed how the government “will increase its size and purchasing power to set an example in tackling the climate crisis.” The order will reduce emissions via federal processes, as part of a government-wide effort to tackle climate change.

“As the nation’s largest landowner, energy consumer, and business owner, the federal government can catalyze private sector investment and expand the U.S. economy and industry by transforming how we build, buy, and manage electricity, vehicles, buildings, and other operations to be clean and sustainable.
