Australia’s population to hit 25 million people

Australia’s population is expected to tip over into 25 million people today. The record comes 33 years earlier than forecasts initially predicted two decades ago. Higher immigration and solid birth rates are credited with driving up the population number. Almost 90 per cent of all new permanent arrivals are settling in Sydney and Melbourne, prompting calls for more skilled migrants to live in rural and regional communities.
