Caen: two bombs of the Second World War neutralized

The operation went smoothly this Sunday morning.
It is an important remnant of the Second World War which was neutralized this Sunday in Caen (Calvados). Two bombs of about 213 kg each were taken out of service by the deminers who worked from 8 am to 1 pm in the city center of the city of Normandy.
The bombs, now neutralized, were swept away by deminers and will be destroyed in the coming months on a secure site, said the prefecture of Calvados. Ouest-France reports that the explosive charges were discovered on a construction site in June and July.
Frequent discoveries of old bombs in the region
Nearly 1,200 people were evacuated this Sunday morning from the security perimeter, which included the Court of Appeal, the prefecture and the public finance department. These inhabitants have been allowed since midday to return home.Discoveries of such potentially dangerous objects are commonplace in the Normandy region , where many battles took place during the Second World War. “There are two calls a day to inform about the discovery of a bomb or similar to an explosive object,” said the prefecture, which calls in this case not to manipulate the object and to notify the competent authorities .
