Two people were killed Monday morning during a home invasion that led to a barricaded situation near Wreford and Linwood streets on Detroit’s west side.
Several roads in the area were blocked off as police swarmed the home in the 2600 block of Wreford Street. It all started about 7:15 a.m., Detroit police said, when a man went to his ex-girlfriend’s home and shot her three times. The man kicked in the door to the home.
“As soon as he made entry into this location he began firing multiple shots,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.
The man and woman have a child together. The woman was able to escape the home with the child. She is being treated at a hospital. Her condition is not known at this time. Her child was not injured.
Another woman also was in the home. Police said the man shot and killed her before shooting and killing himself. Craig said the woman was a friend of the man’s ex-girlfriend.
“She was staying here as an act of a personal protection order because of the continued violence between her and the suspect,” said Craig.
This prompted a barricaded situation at the home Monday morning. The chief said a special response team entered the home and found the man and woman dead.
