Chelsea Football Club ownership transferred to an American alliance

London club Chelsea announced on Saturday, in an official statement, that it had agreed to the terms of the acquisition of the club by a consortium headed by American businessman, Todd Boley.

Chelsea FC published a statement on its official website saying: "Chelsea announces the purchase of Todd Poelly the club and that he is the new owner. Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group to acquire the club led by Todd Poelly, Klerlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Weiss." .

The club stressed that "these proceeds will be transferred to a frozen bank account in the United Kingdom with the intention of donating 100% to charities, as previously stated by the club's former owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Transfer of funds from the UK escrowed bank account will require UK government approval.

The deal is expected to close at the end of May.

Chelsea reached an agreement in the past hours with the Todd Boley alliance to sell the club for 2.5 million pounds ($3.08 billion), with the new owners obligated to pay 1.75 billion pounds to invest in the club.
