2 rescued from balcony as crews battle fire at Heatherwoods Apartments in Inkster

A firefighter and a tenant were transported to a hospital and treated for smoke inhalation as crews battled an apartment fire in Inkster.

The fire at the Heatherwoods Apartments broke out around 9 a.m. on Tuesday on the second floor and quickly spread through the entire building.

When crews were called to the fire Tuesday morning there were reports of two people trapped on a balcony. The two people were rescued.

At least four units have been impacted by the fire and there are eight units in the building. Crews from Inkster, Westland, Garden City and Dearborn Heights are helping battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but arson investigators are on the scene as a precaution.

This is the second apartment fire this week. Two people were transported to a hospital on Monday after a fire broke out at the Thompson Tower apartments in Inkster.

Investigators do not believe the fires are connected at this time.
