Associated Press: Al-Houthi intensified efforts to recruit children despite the truce

A report published by the Associated Press revealed that the Houthi group in Yemen continued to "recruit ten-year-old children into the ranks of the fighters", despite the truce announced by the United Nations last April.

On Thursday, the report quoted two Houthi officials as saying that "the group continues to recruit hundreds of children, some of whom are less than ten years old, over the past two months," noting that "child recruits have been deployed to the front lines."

The Associated Press noted that Houthi officials "say they see no problem in the practice, and have argued that boys as young as 10 or 12 are considered men."

One of them added, "They are not children. They are real men who should defend their nation against the Saudi-American aggression and defend the Islamic nation."

The agency also pointed out that the Houthi officials stipulated that they speak with them anonymity to avoid a clash with leaders in the group.
