Beware... these foods negatively affect your mental health!

A recent study found that the consumption of ultra-processed foods, that is, those that are devoid of whole foods, are industrially produced, and are usually ready to eat or heat, negatively affect mental health, which means that they increase the risk of dementia.

The journal Neurology published the results of the recent study, which was prepared by a team of researchers at Tianjin University in China, and found that eating large amounts of ultra-processed foods is significantly associated with a higher risk of dementia. The researchers were also able to determine that replacing some ultra-processed foods with foods that were not processed or minimally processed helped reduce the risk of dementia.

The researchers confirmed that each 10 percent increase in daily consumption of ultra-processed foods was associated with a 25 percent increased risk of dementia. And replacing 10% of ultra-processed foods with unprocessed or minimally processed foods was associated with a 19% lower risk of dementia.

The researchers found that individuals who ate the most highly processed foods had statistically significant increases in negative mental health symptoms and a tendency to mild depression and certain stress and anxiety states.

In a study recently published in Public Health Nutrition, researchers reported that those who consumed large amounts of ultra-processed foods had more negative mental health symptoms.
