Bill Gates donates $20 billion to his charitable foundation

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has donated $20 billion to the charitable foundation that he and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates runs to boost its annual business.

In a post on his personal blog, he said the donation would help the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - one of the world's largest private charities - increase its annual payments by 50 percent to $9 billion by 2026.

"The major crises of our time require all of us to do more," Gates added, referring to the Corona epidemic, the war in Ukraine, climate change, among others. He added that the complex effects of the crises, which include high inflation, increased the need to increase investment in the main areas that the institution focuses on, which are health, education, gender equality and poverty alleviation.

This donation raises the grant of the organization, which was founded 22 years ago, to about 70 billion dollars, including a donation of 3.1 billion dollars from American billionaire Warren Buffett last month.
