Burkina Faso: 14 people were killed in two attacks in the north of the country

At least 14 people, including 8 civilians supporting the army, were killed in northern Burkina Faso in two separate attacks by gunmen, security and local sources said on Tuesday.

A security source said, "Gunmen attacked the village of Safi (central north) in the early hours of last Monday morning. The attack targeted the Homeland Defense Volunteers, who lost 8 of their members."

He added, "The attack also resulted in the injury of other members."

A local source confirmed the attack, noting that the toll is "7 dead and 10 wounded, in addition to severe material damage."

"Also on Monday, gunmen killed 6 civilians near Markoi (northeast) and looted cars and other property," the security source added.

In contact with the "Agence France Presse" agency, a resident of the area whose relative was killed in the attack stated that "the terrorists kidnapped 3 young men on the Salmosi-Markoi road, and then they were found dead in the bush during the day on Monday."

He added, "The terrorists looted a number of people who stopped them on the road and stole their cars."
