Due to drought internal migration in the southern governorates.

The southern governorates are witnessing internal migration due to drought.


A UN report revealed the migration of hundreds of families from southern Iraq due to drought and climate change.

The United Nations Office for Coordination indicated that the governorates of Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar tend to record the largest number of internal displacement due to water scarcity, pollution and soil salinity in some villages. The International Organization for Migration recorded the displacement of more than twelve thousand people from southern Iraq due to drought
