European Commission refrains from imposing restrictions on the price of Russian gas

The Guardian reports that the European Commission will not impose a ceiling on the price of Russian gas, but intends to impose a new tax on the "extra" (excess) profits of European energy companies.

The newspaper, citing a draft document, stated that the European Union, due to the reluctance of many of its countries to impose a price ceiling on gas from Russia, is likely to abandon this measure against Moscow.

She added that "the executive body of the European Union (the European Commission) refuses to impose a ceiling on the price of Russian gas, but is promoting the idea of imposing additional taxes on the excess profits of energy companies."
