Experts warn... food supplements to enhance memory may be "useless"

Experts warn that over-the-counter supplements that claim to boost a person's memory and cognitive function may be useless.

And while these supplements often contain a mix of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are good for brain health, the pills themselves don't translate into any benefit.

However, the contents of the grains are safe, and many of the ingredients are in common foods that a person would eat anyway.

"The truth is that for some people, these products may provide some benefit, but for most of them they don't," explained Dr. Douglas Shar, a neurologist in Ohio State.

He added that these supplements can be a waste of time and money.
