Explosion in a building in Madrid, at least 3 people injured

An explosion, apparently caused by a gas leak, damaged a building in the Malasaña neighborhood in central Madrid on Friday, injuring at least three people and causing a fire, police in the Spanish capital told Reuters.

Madrid's emergency service said two people suffered minor injuries, and one woman was taken to hospital for serious burns.

"The first indications we have are that it was a gas leak that caused the explosion," a police spokesman said.

Many of the buildings in central Madrid are old and dilapidated, along with dilapidated infrastructure that often causes accidents.
