In London... climate activists occupy Gordon Ramsay's restaurant

Climate activists occupied London's three-Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay's restaurant on Saturday night, calling for an overhaul of the UK's food system.

Fourteen members of the Animal Rebel group entered Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in Chelsea, southwest London, at around 6pm (1800 GMT) and sat at tables reserved for customers with fake menus detailing the environmental costs of the dishes served at the restaurant, and left when the establishment closed. After hours.

"This fine dining restaurant gives the best example of the inequality we currently face in the UK, as well as the denial of how severe the climate crisis is," the group wrote on Twitter.

"We need a radical transformation of the UK food system and we all need to take responsibility for that," she added.

Activist Lucia Alexander called for a "transition to a plant-based diet".

"A plant-based diet requires 75 percent less agricultural land to grow food, allowing us to feed millions more people without relying on exploitative and inefficient animal husbandry industries," she explained.

For his part, a spokesman for Gordon Ramsay restaurant said, "Everyone has the right to have opinions and beliefs. But forcibly entering a restaurant, harassing hard-working employees and spoiling an evening for customers who have waited months for their reservations, is completely unacceptable and inappropriate."

London police said they were called to the restaurant, but no arrests were made.
