Iraq.. thwarted attempt to steal oil pipelines in Basra

The Iraqi Energy Police Directorate announced that it had thwarted an attempt to steal oil pipelines in Basra, in the south of the country, and arrested the accused.


The directorate said in a statement that "according to the directives of the Director-General, Major General Ghanem Al-Husseini, to follow up and prosecute the gangs smuggling oil and its derivatives, and under the direct supervision of Major General Mosleh Al-Khawam, Director of the Southern Oil Police, the detachments of the Seventh Regiment that protects the West Qurna 1 fields in Basra Governorate were able to thwart an attempt to steal The oil pipelines, where the force was able to arrest the accused while seizing his wheel (truck) while he was trying to escape.


She added that he was arrested and his truck was impounded in one of the oil police stations, to be brought before the judiciary and held accountable in accordance with the Oil and Derivatives Smuggling Law No. 41 of 2008.
