Iraqi Kurdistan: The Federal Court has no right to cancel the Oil and Gas Law

The Judicial Council of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq issued a statement clarifying the oil and gas law and how to manage the oil fields, indicating that the Federal Court does not have the powers to cancel the relevant law.

In the statement, the council stated, "The actions of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq related to the process related to oil and gas are consistent with what was stated in the Iraqi constitution issued in 2005, and that the provisions of the Oil and Gas Law No. 22 of 2007 issued by the regional parliament do not contradict the provisions of the constitution."

He added: "Exploration, production and export of oil and gas have not been determined from the exclusive privities of the federal authorities as stated in Article 110 of the Constitution, so the provisions of the Oil and Gas Law remain in effect."
