Dark circles are no longer confined to women over the age of forty, we are witnessing cases in children so that some mothers ask if it is normal for their child to suffer from dark circles in the eye area. As for the answer to this question, you will read it below.

Reasons for the appearance of dark circles in children

There are a number of reasons why dark circles may appear under your child's eyes, and almost all of them are normal. In this context, pediatrician Tanya Remer-Altmann says: “The skin under everyone’s eyes is thinner than the skin on the rest of the face.” She adds that some children with darker skin, including those with a Middle Eastern or Mediterranean background, have darker pigmentation that can give the appearance of circles under the eyes. It is also common for a tired child to rub their eyes, which causes the delicate skin under the eyes to turn red.

While many parents blame dark circles on allergies, Altman says seasonal allergies generally don't show up in babies younger than 1 year old. "Children usually need to be exposed to environmental allergens for one or two seasons before they get hay fever," she says.

Children with allergic rhinitis may also suffer from “allergy polishes,” or dark circles under the eyes, due to swollen blood vessels under the skin.

Some particularly sensitive babies may have an allergic reaction to a food in their mother's diet, but this usually shows up as hives or blood in the stool, rather than dark circles under the eyes.

Finally, although very rare, darkening around the eye can be caused by a tumor. If the skin under your baby's eyes is too dark, Altman says, ask your baby's doctor about it.
