"It saved lives".. Biden signs gun law

US President Joe Biden on Saturday signed the first major federal gun law bill in the United States in decades, saying that while it fell short of what was really needed, it "saved lives."

"While this law doesn't cover everything I want, it does include measures that I have been calling for for a long time that will save lives," he said at the White House before leaving for major diplomatic meetings in Europe.

The US President added that the new law is an attempt to keep weapons away from children who pose a danger to people and themselves.

Biden said many families in the United States have lost loved ones to gun violence.

The passage of the law came after one of the deadliest mass shootings in America in the state of Texas, when an 18-year-old teenager opened fire inside an elementary school and killed 19 students and teachers, in the small town of Ovaldi, west of San Antonio, last May.
