Jordan .. "Parliamentary Energy" threatens to "escalate" with the government over fuel tariffs

The head of the Energy Committee in the Jordanian House of Representatives, Firas Al-Ajarm, waved an "escalation with the government" in the fuel pricing file, referring to a joint meeting on Monday to discuss the rise in the tariffs of oil derivatives locally.

He said, "The discussion includes the fixed tax on fuel, in light of the continued influence of local fuel prices, by the global rise," calling on the government to find new solutions and a support umbrella for fuels.

Al-Ajarmeh called for "encouraging the acquisition of electric vehicles in Jordan, and exempting from tax to encourage citizens to purchase them," noting that "the committee will issue decisions during the next meeting with the government."

The Petroleum Derivatives Pricing Committee at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources decided last Tuesday to raise the prices of petroleum products at different rates, leading to the implementation of the approved pricing mechanism according to the petroleum derivatives pricing equation by the end of 2022.

For her part, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Amani Al-Azzam said, "Continuing to raise fuel prices depends on the path of global prices."
