Learn About Growing Grains on a Small-Scale for Home and Community Gardens

DEARBORN, Mich. – Dearborn Public Library will host Scott Hucker of Great Lakes Staple Seeds for a virtual talk about raising grains in your home garden on Wednesday, August 17 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Hucker will go through a growing season step by step, sharing his personal experience with growing these wonderfully diverse and versatile staple crops: wheat, barley, oats, rice, sorghum, triticale, millet, and amaranth. He will speak about selection, planting, cultivation, harvest and processing on a personal-use scale, along with culinary uses.

Scott Hucker lives in Ortonville, Michigan with his family on their small homestead farm which is the "Grains Department" of Great Lakes Staple Seeds. For more information from Scott and Eleanor Hucker and Great Lakes Staple Seeds, please visit greatlakesstapleseeds.com.
