Mackinac Bridge to welcome Labor Day crowds for 64th annual walk

The walk was first held in 1958 and usually attracts 20,000-30,000 participants each year, according to a Mackinac Bridge Authority news release.

This year’s event will begin at 6:30 a.m. and participants can start walking from either the St. Ignace or Mackinaw City ends of the bridge.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer led last year's walk, which drew 21,000 people.

Walkers have three options for routes: walking to the midpoint of the bridge and turning back, crossing the bridge and exiting from the opposite side, or crossing the bridging and walking back to exit from their origin point.
