More than half of Britons want Liz Trace to leave

The results of a recent YouGov poll showed that more than half of Britons believe Liz Truss should resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, after less than a month in office.

The poll highlights the damage done to the standing of Truss and her conservative party by the massive package of unfunded tax cuts that her government unveiled a week ago, Bloomberg reported.

About 51% of the nearly 5,000 Britons polled said the prime minister should resign, while 54% said Treasury Secretary Kwasi Quarting should resign.

Despite the backlash from financial markets to the government's plan, which drew criticism from international finance officials, Trass and Kwarting have so far stuck firmly to their fiscal plans, which are believed to benefit the rich more than the low-income ones.

The YouGov poll also showed Trass losing support among those who voted for the Conservative Party in the last general election in 2019. 36% of Tory voters said Trass should go and 41% called for Quarting to go.
