Pregnant women live in harsh conditions.. High number of premature births in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine caused an increase in premature births in health centers.

The Russian attack on Ukraine "is raising the level of tension in pregnant women, leading to an increase in the number of premature births," said Hervé Verhusel, spokesman for the International Medicines Procurement Facility, at a press conference in Geneva.

"Children born prematurely are more likely to develop respiratory, neurological or gastrointestinal complications - conditions that often require oxygen therapy," he explained.

“In some of the hospitals our partners spoke to during the training on the use of the equipment, there was an increase from 12 to 40 percent,” Verhusel explained.
