Qatar World Cup .. Team leaders will wear the "One Love" badge

The leaders of 8 European teams, including world champion France, will wear badges with colored stripes in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, in a message against discrimination, their national federations announced on Wednesday.

England's Harry Kane, Germany's Manuel Neuer and France's Hugo Lloris will wear heart-shaped badges featuring six parallel stripes of different colors from the gay flag.

The French national team has not officially confirmed its accreditation, but other concerned federations have included Blue in their statements.

"As the leader, we will challenge each other on the pitch, but we stand against all forms of discrimination," explained English Harry Kane in a statement published by his country's federation. The German Federation explained that the initiative, called "One Love", came from a working group affiliated with the European Football Association (Wifa) responsible for studying "issues related to labor rights and human rights in Qatar until the 2022 World Cup."

"A love of football unites us, no matter where we come from, our looks and who we love (...) Football must stand with all those who feel discriminated and ostracized," explains international goalkeeper Neuer.

The associations concerned are also the Netherlands, Wales, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, in addition to Sweden and Norway, which did not qualify for the World Cup.

The campaign begins Thursday in the European Nations League matches.
