Rochester Hills man dies after Jeep driver runs red light while on cellphone, crashes into car

A Rochester Hills man has died after the driver of a Jeep ran a red light while using her cellphone and crashed into the car he was in at an intersection, police said.

The crash happened at 11:17 a.m. Sept. 20 at the intersection of Adams and Avon roads in Rochester Hills.

Officials said a 30-year-old Rochester Hills woman was driving a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Adams Road approaching Avon Road. At the same time, a 75-year-old Rochester Hills man was driving a 2012 Honda Accord west on Avon Road toward the intersection.

Police said the Accord started to turn left onto southbound Adams Road when it was struck on the driver’s side by the Jeep, which had continued north through a red light at the intersection, according to authorities.

“The Honda Accord had the right of way as indicated by a green left turn signal,” a release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.
