Russia launches a defensive line in eastern Ukraine

British military intelligence said, on Saturday, that Russian forces have established a defensive line in eastern Ukraine, as Kyiv forces continue their counter-attack, at a time when the Russian Defense Ministry published videos showing bombings of targets it said belong to the Ukrainian army.

British military intelligence said in its daily update on the war in Ukraine that Russian forces had established a defensive line between the Uskil River and the town of Svatov.

"It is possible that Russia will see that preserving this area is important, because it passes through one of the few major resupply routes that Russia still controls from the Belgorod region of Russia," and therefore established the defensive line, she noted.

British intelligence said that the line is located along the border of an area that is part of the Donbass region, which Russia seeks to control in the current war.

It stated that any significant Russian territorial loss in the Lugansk region, which is part of Donbass, would unequivocally undermine Russia's strategy in the region.
