Security Council calls for intensified efforts to expand the armistice in Yemen

The UN Security Council urged the warring parties in Yemen to urgently intensify negotiations to extend the truce, according to a statement issued Tuesday.

Members of the UN Security Council highlighted the tangible benefits of the agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis, which is now in its sixth month and includes a 60 percent reduction in casualties.

In addition, fuel coming from the port of Hodeidah has quadrupled, while commercial flights from the capital, Sanaa, have allowed 21,000 people to receive medical treatment and reunite with their families.
