Several dead and wounded in shooting at a school in Izhevsk, central Russia

The Interior Ministry of Udmurtia, one of the autonomous republics in central Russia, said that 9 people were killed, including 5 children, and 20 others were injured in a shooting incident at School No. 88 in Izhevsk, the capital of the republic.


"The relevant information and the merits are still being clarified," the ministry's statement said, according to our correspondent.


The press service was informed that the shooter's body had been found.


The President of the Republic of Udmurtia, Alexander Prishalov, who arrived at the scene earlier, said that the identity of the attacker was still unknown.


Media reports later said that the attacker committed suicide.

The Russian Interior Ministry said, "The police found the body of the shooter. Our information indicates that he committed suicide," according to AFP.


Earlier, the district governor reported that "among the victims" were children and that a security guard was also killed.
