South Lyon student in custody after writing threatening message in high school bathroom

A student was taken into custody after he wrote a threatening message in the bathroom at South Lyon East High School.

The threat was discovered Tuesday (Oct. 4) in a boys’ restroom, school officials said. South Lyon East Principal Karen Fisher said a student admitted to writing the threat when he got to school Wednesday morning.

He was taken into custody and removed from the building. Oakland County deputies said he was not in possession of a weapon.

“In addition to any potential legal consequences, the administration will be recommending the student be expelled from South Lyon Community Schools,” Fisher wrote in a letter to parents and guardians.

Going forward, after-school activities will continue as scheduled. The arrival process will be normal Thursday and Friday, with an increased law enforcement presence, Fisher said.
