Tehran comments on a Saudi newspaper publishing cartoons against Khomeini

Tehran strongly criticized the publication of caricatures against the founder of the Iranian revolution, Ruhollah Khomeini, in a Saudi newspaper, and called on Riyadh to ensure that the incidents of "harming Imam Khomeini" are not repeated.

"We expect the Saudi side to abide by the principles of dialogue and to stay away from non-political steps," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a press conference today, Monday, commenting on the cartoon's publication.

He added, "Insulting Imam Khomeini is unacceptable, and we expect the Saudi government to make sure that such steps are not repeated."

Al-Riyadh newspaper had published an article that included statements by an American analyst regarding what was described as "the Iranian regime's long history of plots to assassinate its opponents and critics abroad," and attached it to a caricature of Khomeini.
