Salt damage to your child's health

Although salt is an essential mineral, you generally don't have to worry about your child getting enough of it. In fact, barring any certain medical conditions, babies will consume enough sodium just by drinking breast milk or formula.

This means that you should not add salt during cooking and avoid feeding your child processed foods or restaurant food, which are often high in sodium, or else the health risks will be dangerous for your child. The most prominent health problems caused by adding salt to your little one's food:


Kidney damage

Timing and method of salt introduction:

After your baby is a year old, you can introduce a little salt to season foods. However, it is best to reduce processed foods as they are high in salt.


If you choose to serve processed foods, don't add salt to your cooking. Keep in mind if you use condiments that contain sodium, such as soy sauce or ketchup, or serve your child salty foods such as macaroni and cheese, or canned foods, you may have already met or exceeded the sodium recommendations for toddlers.
