The Swedish Foreign Minister resolves the controversy: We will not deploy nuclear weapons on our soil

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom confirmed today, Saturday, that his country will not deploy nuclear weapons on its soil after joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

According to Billstrom, "Stockholm will follow the example of its neighbors, Denmark and Norway, which do not have nuclear weapons on their soil."

Reuters also quoted the minister as saying: "This is the long-term position of the moderate coalition party. We will never intend to change the terms of the request made by the previous government."

Bellstrom's statement came after the Swedish newspaper Proletären reported that after joining NATO, US nuclear weapons and military bases will appear on the country's territory, because this is in the interest of the United States of America.

The newspaper suggested that Sweden would not be able to avoid the deployment of military bases and NATO nuclear weapons, despite Stockholm's repeated assertion that it would "follow the example of Denmark and Norway and not publish permanent military bases."
