Turkey confirms the successful completion of Operation "Claw Sword" in northern Iraq and Syria

Today, Sunday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar confirmed that his country had successfully carried out air strikes in northern Syria and Iraq, targeting "terrorist hideouts," he said.

Akar announced, in a statement, the successful completion of the "Claw of the Sword" operation in northern Iraq and Syria, pointing to the "destruction of terrorists' hideouts, shelters, caves, tunnels and warehouses with great success and direct casualties."

Akar's statements come after Turkish raids on sites of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), yesterday, Saturday, in Mount Karachuk, and a power station in the vicinity of the city of Al-Malikiyah, northeast of Al-Hasakah, targeting their positions in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

And the Turkish army announced, last night, that it launched more than 20 air strikes on sites of the Kurdistan Workers Party, which Ankara classifies as a terrorist organization.

A few days ago, a senior Turkish official said that Ankara intends to pursue targets in northern Syria after it completes an operation against the PKK militants in northern Iraq, after a deadly explosion occurred in Istanbul at the weekend.

The official pointed out that "the threats posed by Kurdish militants or ISIS to Turkey are unacceptable," indicating that Turkey will eliminate the threats on its southern borders "one way or another."
