UN envoy to Yemen calls for longer truce extension

The UN envoy has arrived in Yemen, the Yemeni capital, Hans Grundberg, to discuss the extension and expansion of the truce with the leadership of the Supreme Political Council.

Grundberg said, before his arrival, that he "concluded a series of talks in Riyadh and Muscat, during which he met the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al-Alimi, Saudi officials, in addition to the Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi, and the head of the Ansar Allah team, Muhammad Abdul Salam."

A United Nations proposal to extend and expand the Armistice Agreement beyond 2 October 2022 was discussed, he added.

He stressed "the importance of extending the armistice for longer periods of time, to allow the Yemenis to make progress on a larger scale that accommodates priorities, and provides space for preparations to move towards comprehensive political negotiations."
