UN envoy to Yemen: Renewing and expanding the truce is a humanitarian and political necessity

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, affirmed today, Friday, that "the renewal and expansion of the truce in force in Yemen is a humanitarian and political necessity," warning against "wasting the opportunity offered by the truce in building on it to achieve peace in Yemen."

At the conclusion of his visit to Sanaa, the Office of the UN Envoy stated, in its account on Twitter, that "During the visit, Grundberg held intensive discussions on issues related to paying civil servants' salaries, issues related to ports and the airport and maintaining the calm of the front lines."

Grundberg was quoted as saying that "the renewal and expansion of the armistice is a humanitarian and political necessity, and it is an opportunity that we cannot afford to miss."

“The armistice has made a tangible impact on the lives of Yemenis. We have the opportunity to build on and expand on these benefits. The pursuit of peace requires courage and leadership from all sides,” he added, noting that “if there is a return to war, we may not have this kind of opportunity again.” others for a long time.
