Zelensky: A short truce with Russia will exacerbate matters

Yesterday, Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ruled out the idea of approving a short truce with Russia, saying that it would exacerbate matters.

In a statement broadcast at the Halifax International Security Forum, he added, "Russia is now looking for a short truce and a respite to restore its strength... This could be seen as an end to the war, but such a respite will only lead to an exacerbation of the situation."

And the Ukrainian president believed that "true, actual, lasting and sincere peace can only be achieved through the complete destruction of Russian aggression," as he put it.

Earlier, the advisor to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Mikhail Podolak, said that "Kyiv has no motive to resume negotiations with Moscow," adding: "This would mean a victory for Russia."

On the other hand, the official spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, announced earlier that his country is still open to talks with Ukraine.
